Converting a Pressfit 30 Bottom Bracket / Frameset to a 24mm Shimano Hollowtech 11 chainset

Stuck with a Pressfit 30 (30mm crank) FSA chainset but want to upgrade to a Shimano Hollowtech 11 chainset? Here is ‘a’ solution:

Some framesets are optimised for a pressfit bottom bracket taking a 30mm spindle chainset such as those by FSA and and others are optimised for a 24mm chainset such as those used by Shimano.

Changing from one to the other requires identifying what size bottom bracket your bike is fitted with and then identifying what model of bottom bracket will fit your new chainset and existing frame.

Measure frame bottom bracket shell width - many sizes from 68/73mm - 86.5/91.5mm and wider

Measure bottom bracket internal diameter - many widths but here we are dealing with Pressfit 30 = 46mm

This bottom bracket size is known as BB386EVO (86.5mm shell width and 46mm internal shell diameter)

Solutions to change bottom bracket to fit a Shimano chainset.

  1. Fit BB30 to 24mm Crank Spindle shim (reducer) such as the Wheels Manufacturing model

  2. Fit a BB386 24mm bottom bracket shell press fit for Shimano 24mm

  3. Fit a BB386 EVO threaded lock press fit bottom bracket for 386 frame to 24mm crankset

  4. Bottom bracket tool - Park Tool BBT-27.3 bottom bracket tool 16-notch 49mm
